Elementary Dot Painting Project

With the elementary school moving into Haus 1, we need to bring more color to its atrium.  This means more art!
Using an Australian aboriginal art technique, students from the entire elementary school are helping to create this dot painting mural.
Enjoy watching our progress on this page.

The GLOBAL COMMUNITY MOSAIC PROJECT

Bild
Here is a video of the Philly Magic Gardens in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.  This artist, Isaiah Zagar, is still alive and still working on mosaic, so be sure to visit him if you are in the USA.  There is a movie/documentary about his life titled, "In a Dream."  (it is not recommended for children, however, due to certain content)

Portraits  A whole-elementary art project about identity and COLOR

Students from EC through Grade 5 worked on making a self-portrait using only one color (color differs between students).
The end product is in the hallway or atrium for everyone to enjoy.

Students learned the word "portrait" and some students experimented with pattern and resist techniques.
All students gained experience from working with only one color and learned how to achieve different values from that color.
