The Turtle Oven Project, 2016
We used natural materials and lots of hands to create our very own pizza oven! The process: 1) Making Insulation for the oven floor using perlite, clay and water 2) Laying the floor of the oven with firebrick 3) Building the sand form (which is later removed) 4) Making sand-clay balls and forming the oven core over the sand form 5) Building an arch with bricks 6) After dry, removing the sand from the core 7) Adding an insulation layer to the oven 8) Adding straw-clay-sand over the insulation for protection and for sculpting 9) Painting and weather-proofing the oven 10) Sculpting the head/door |
